DivinationsReading the Tarot for myself, and sometimes for You (the Greater I of which you and I are part), has been a source of comfort and guidance for decades. I used my first deck for 20 years. It was the small round MotherPeace deck. Then The Gaian Tarot came magically into my hands. That story ("Death, Says My Tarot Deck), and others are on YouTube. Now, I use the Fool's Dog Tarot Sampler or Gaian Tarot app on my iPad. Some doubt the efficacy of electronic divination but it works for me. The way I see it, it's not the tool you use (some shaman kill chickens and read their entrails!) it's your connection with MOM that helps you see what's in the cards. Things are (getting?) wild out there, and guidance is good when things are hairy. Offered here are dreams and readings that I've done, along with some others'. |
It was the last full moon of 2023 (December 27). Because it’s been such a difficult year and I’d like it to be better next year, I went to the cards for a little guidance. Considering the different spreads, I saw some listed under "Relationship" and I thought about our relationship with Mother Earth. Some were listed under "Self Improvement" and I thought 'We could use a little improvement.' Going Deeper is the name of this spread. Let’s see what's suggested…. The (single) Significator, The Hermit, suggests going inside for guidance. Looking for the light inside. Undermining Forces (cards on the left, bottom to top) are our lack of community (Reversed 3 of Earth), our being out of touch with the Mystery (Reversed High Priestess), and our willing acceptance of the deception of people in power (7 of Swords). It continually amazes me how well the cards describe a situation. Supporting Forces (cards in the centre) are our Imagination (7 of Chalices), a sudden turn of fate (Wheel of Fortune), and we have limited choices (8 of Swords). We must learn to work within our capacities, even blind and helpless as we feel we are! The Outcome (fan of cards, left to right) appears to be a return to the Garden, a taming of the nature of humanity (9 of Pentacles). While I can imagine that there will be some reluctance to let go of the past, suspension of Judgement was what occurred to me with Judgement Reversed. When I saw the Highland Cow in the Empress Reversed I remembered the experience of Chris Bledsoe who was bowled over by a cow/bull when The Lady came to speak to him about humanity. Seeing the card upside down, I thought, “we have to turn that around! We need The Lady’s help!” Being presented with 5 Upper Arcana in one reading is pretty momentous... I wonder, do you see more here than I do? What do the cards/placements mean to you? Click "Read More" to see the meanings of the cards as written by the designers of the decks and offered by Fool's Dog Tarot Sampler. Thank you so much for following along. The Relationship
IX – The Hermit (Upright) from Tarot Mucha. ---------- Key ideas: Universal wisdom, spiritual solitude, the illumined soul, retreat into sanctuary On an icy mountaintop, a Hermit welcomes the solitude that illuminates. Withdrawn from the noise and rush of the world, she is in search of her Self, without the distractions and opinions of others. The light within her lantern is six-pointed, symbolic of the union of the water of intuition and the fire of inspiration. The light from her lantern shines through the darkness of ignorance to guide those who are ready to look within. Undermining Forces Three of Earth (Reversed) ---------- Corresponds to Three of Pentacles Three of Earth is from Gaian Tarot. ---------- You are gathering in community with others to create something of lasting value. When we work together cooperatively, the final product is one of synergy — it is more than each of its separate parts. The pleasure we take in each other’s company finds its way into the medicine we are creating. Shadow side: You may have not yet found a community where you feel at home. It’s time to seek one out, or better yet, create one. Find others with mutual interests and start a gathering in your home, at a local bookstore, or community center. Reach out to others and find a community of kindred spirits. Undermining Forces The High Priestess (Reversed) ---------- The High Priestess is from the Fellowship of the Fool Tarot. ---------- The High Priestess is Isis Veiled. She is the Keeper of that which is Hidden, of the Mysteries. She represents deep inner wisdom, inner knowing, intuition. Access to the Akashic records. This card can signify seeking guidance and counsel, especially from a woman. She is that which is silent, receptive and hidden. Her message to you is: You are right – it is what you already know. In divination, this card represents a period of passive withdrawal, a time in which we can allow our inner selves to awaken. She symbolizes as yet unrealized potential and intuition, listening to her inner voice. Undermining Forces Seven of Swords (Upright) ---------- Seven of Swords is from The Counterculture Tarot. ---------- Glib and boastful, the Seven of Swords offers an attractive deception. Reagan ran for governor of California against two constituencies, one hapless and the other quite small: the state's poorest families, and the noisy student activists on university campuses who marched for free speech, civil rights and against the Vietnam War. Reversal The Seven of Swords suggests that a success may be compromised by the very stealth that makes theft possible. What was the Reagan Revolution? More than anything it was Reagan’s special knack for making privileged white people feel abused by their government and what he portrayed as its ungrateful freeloaders. Supporting Forces 7 of Chalices (Upright) ---------- Corresponds to 7 of Cups 7 of Chalices is from The Book of Shadows Tarot, Volume Two: So Below. ---------- The world is full of opportunities and we are full of potential, as this young woman now knows. The imagination is a great gift, for through it we can experience all possible futures and thereby commit to one and manifest it in our lives. Divinatory meaning: Dreams and desires. Reversed: Confusion and immobility. Supporting Forces The Wheel of Fortune (Upright) ---------- The Wheel of Fortune is from The Mythic Tarot. ---------- The Wheel of Fortune augurs a sudden change of fortune. This may be ‘good’ or ‘bad’, but whichever way the Wheel turns it brings growth and a new phase of life. We cannot predict what will come to meet us – or rather, what we will turn to meet. But behind these changes stand the Moirai, an image of the centre within. Thus the Fool is thrown from his complacency, and begins the descent to his own source. Supporting Forces Eight of Swords (Upright) ---------- Eight of Swords is from Llewellyn's Classic. ---------- Keywords: feeling trapped, restricted, dangerous situation, limited options, helplessness, complex problems Reversed: victim mentality, giving up, seeing problems where none exist The Outcome Nine of Pentacles (Upright) ---------- The Nine of Pentacles is from Crystal Visions Tarot. ---------- The Nine of Pentacles represents one who is self sufficient, refined and comfortable in their surroundings. This card signifies a love for the finer things in life, leisure and graciousness. Reversed: Disharmony in the home, financial stresses, or a possible theft. The usual easy flow of things has been disrupted, and one is jarred into a sense of panic and discomfort. The Outcome XX • JUDGEMENT (Reversed) ---------- XX, Judgement is from Mystic Dreamer Tarot. ---------- You are being called to face your past before moving on. Acknowledge whatever has happened, accept it, and let it go. A time for change is at hand—perhaps a new job, a new relationship, or a new way of life. You’ve decided to heed the call. You have the experience and the knowledge to move forward. Make your final farewells. If reversed, this card warns of hanging on to the past and using it as an excuse to not move forward. Similarly, it can mean moving forward, but dragging the past with you. The Outcome III / The Empress (Reversed) from Animal Totem Tarot. ---------- The Cow has long been a symbol of divine feminine energy. Her milk is used to nourish not just her own children but the children of many other species. The Empress is the embodiment of the divine mother, ever giving love and life, nurturing all of her creations and providing them with the nourishment they require to grow. The Empress is the vessel from which great things spring forth. Throughout history, it was the Empress who bore the continued bloodlines of the ruling imperial family. Today she bears the bloodlines of all that can be manifested into physical form. Be it an idea, dream, or goal that is making its way into the physical world, the Empress is here to guide you through all of the stages.
